Between figuring out your rare from your medium with beef steaks, or your undercooked versus overcooked with chicken kebabs, barbecuing can be a stressful art to master. Pork takes that stress away with a simple barbecue formula for steaks and chops. Simply cook for 6 minutes on one side, flip the steak/chop over and fry for 2 minutes on the other side, then take it off the heat and rest it for 2 minutes. Easy as that, just remember 6+2+2 and you’ll have tasty pork in 10 minutes every time.
The first few barbecues of the season are a novelty and everyone loves the chance to get back to eating outside. But after a few weeks of the same classic barbecue fare it can start to get a little repetitive. Put some pork in your barbecue repertoire and you’ll have the whole family licking the plates clean.
When you think steaks, your mind drifts to the cost. Next time you’re standing at the meat counter, compare the cost of the NZ pork chop or steak with your usual steak of choice. You may be pleasantly surprised by the savings you can make. And cooked properly using 6+2+2, you won’t have any complaints about the swap either.
